Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table
From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team understands precisely where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Questers and Planners tables.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
