Government Official States MoD Examining Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Staff Instructed to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense minister has revealed that the MoD is currently investigating the possible security risks posed by Chinese-made vehicles, and staff have been advised to avoid talking about secret matters in any cars.

Security Guidance for MoD Staff

In a recently aired appearance on LBC, a defence minister commented on reports that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to talk about secret information while travelling in China-made cars.

The minister said that the ministry is “looking into” cars from China within its fleets, however stressed that security is a issue in all contemporary vehicles.

We have a collection of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a classified classification in any vehicle, due to the increasing threats of eavesdropping that exist in every single vehicle, to restrict those secret conversations in protected areas. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for anyone worried about security.

After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to cease using every cars from China, Pollard responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the moment.”

Wider Defence Background

The announcement comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could allow China to disable public transport and bring chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel has been directing lasers at RAF pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” act by government representatives.

This wider security environment underscores the importance of robust protocols and vigilance in every areas of official activities, from transport usage to discussions habits.
