Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times late to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
